Bill Patterson lives and photographs in Maine and the Washington DC area. He is attracted to the stark light of higher latitudes, particularly
Greenland. His photography has appeared in the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times.
“As a photographer, I steer away from shooting wide open land and sky. When the landscape photography space is packed with titans like Ansel Adams and Sebastiao Salgado, I wonder, why even try. My camera gravitates to the immediate - often the micro. Extending the experience of an image is as important as capturing its representation. The camera expands the sensory universe of space, time and light, allowing a sharper notice of irregular elegance in front of us. The practice of photography yields commitment to empathy and stewardship.”
